The Atlanta West Pentecostal Church choir from Atlanta was voted "America's Best Choir" late Saturday night at the "How Sweet the Sound" choir competition at Joe Louis Arena.
Eleven choirs from around the country, including one from Metro Detroit, competed.
A crowd packed the Joe to hear the choirs, which will comprise a total of 800 singers. Gospel singer Marvin Sapp and the Clark Singers were among the performers during the event sponsored by Verizon Wireless.
