Were
you praying or playing this past weekend? President Obama's religion --
and how or where he worships -- is all over the news and bets were on
that he would/would not worship Sunday at one of the 17 Protestant
churches on Martha's Vineyard.
President
Barack Obama played golf this Sunday -- just as he did in this photo
from last year's vacation. Were you praying -- or playing -- on Sunday,
after a week in which Obama took a lot of ciritism for whether he
expressed his Christian faith often or clearly enough.
He evidently didn't.
And that makes him just like nearly half of U.S. adults who the
Gallup Poll found in its May/June survey seldom (25%) or never (20%) attend weekend worship at a church, synagogue or mosque.
There
was an itsy bitsy uptick in attendance between 2008 and now. Two years
ago 35% said they attended worship at least once a week and now it's
35%. Those who attend almost every week stayed at 8% and those who go
about once a month slid from 12% in 2008 to 11% in 2010.
Of course, since the margin of error is plus or minus one percentage point, it's possible there's been no change at all.
It's quite possible that Obama called on one of the clergy in his "Christian Cabinet" as he reportedly often does, before heading out to play golf.
